Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair.

During laser hair removal, a laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the tube-shaped sacs within the skin (hair follicles) that produce hairs. This damage inhibits or delays future hair growth.

Here at Sparks Aesthetics we use Diode lasers which is safe for all skin types. It has a high absorption rate while also incorporating skin cooling to protect the surface of the skin.

For best results we recommend a minimum of 6 treatments every 4-6 weeks. This is to ensure we are targeting your hair follicles at all stages of growth. 

HOW TO PREPARE

To best prepare for your laser hair removal treatment you will need to discontinue any waxing, bleaching, plucking, threading or any form of hair epilation for at least 2-4 weeks prior to your treatment. Laser works by targeting the root of the hair so hair must be present in the follicle for results.

Discontinue use of active ingredients in your skin care routine only if it is used on the area we will be treating. this would mean salicylic acid, retinol, glycolic acid any form of AHA or BHAs this will make your skin sensitive. we ask that you refrain from using any of these products at least 5 days before your treatment.

Avoid direct sunlight and tanning. it is recommended to avoid prolonged sun exposure on your treated areas for 2 weeks before and after your laser hair removal treatment this also includes tanning beds and tanning lotion this is to prevent increased skin sensitivity and discolouration. Sunscreen is highly recommended before and after your treatments. If you plan on going on vacation somewhere in warm climate please let your provider know.

Areas being treated must be cleaned day of appointment. All areas should be washed and cleaned with little to no product on, this means refrain from using deodorant, make-up, or any creams/lotions on the areas being treated. This will give the laser a clean slate to work on without for better results. if you happen to forget please let your provider know and they can take the necessary steps to cleanse the area 

Medication. Some medications can be photosensitive, meaning it will make your skin sensitive to the laser and the treatment cannot be done. This means you will have to take your course of medication and wait the mandatory 2 weeks after finishing to continue your Laser Hair Removal treatment. Many of these medications include antibiotics and acne medication , if you are unsure if your medication will effect your laser please feel free to ask your doctor or your laser technician. People on accutane must wait a minimum of 6 months.

 we recommend shaving 12-24 hours before your appointment
